Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs written question – answered am ar 22 Hydref 2019.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what recent discussions her officials have had with representatives of supermarkets on the (a) presence and (b) clarity of information on recycling on product packaging.
As stated in our recently published summary of responses to our consultation on reforming the UK packaging producer responsibility system (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/819467/epr-consult-sum-resp.pdf) we are minded to take forward, subject to further analysis and legal considerations, our proposal to introduce a mandatory labelling scheme in which all packaging is identified as ‘recyclable’ or ‘not recyclable’. This proposal was discussed during a policy workshop in April 2019 which was attended by a number of supermarket representatives.
