The UK Government recognises the centrality of teachers to learning, and invests in improving teaching practice across its education programmes. This includes supporting the provision of sufficient numbers of skilled teachers who are motivated to turn up on time, can act as role models and use teaching techniques based on the best available evidence of what works to improve learning. The 2013 DFID annual report shows that the UK has helped to train 99,000 teachers in poor countries since 2010.
