To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of the cost of the cannibalisation of Link 16 data systems from Type 22 ships and their installation on the Royal Fleet Auxiliary's Bay-Class ships.

The cost to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the removal and storage of Link 16 data systems from four Type 22 ships was close to £12,000. The cost to the MOD for the refurbishment, transport, fitting and testing of these systems on three Bay Class ships was approximately £826,000.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
