To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office what steps he is taking to ensure that there is a diverse pool of Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff for Ministers to choose from for their private offices.

Civil service appointments are made on merit in accordance with the requirements of the Civil Service Commission's Recruitment Principles and the Civil Service Management Code. Within the requirement of merit, the civil service is committed to ensuring a diverse pool of staff for roles within departments, including for staff in its private offices.
