Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Penicillin ( 2 Chw 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: I should like notice of that question.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Penicillin ( 2 Chw 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: The production of penicillin in the United States is ahead of the production in this country but it is not adequate to the demand in the United States. We are making every effort to get information from the United States for use in this country.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Penicillin ( 2 Chw 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: I entirely agree with my hon. Friend, and the Ministry of Supply are taking that action.

Oral Answers to Questions — Esparto Grass (Imports) (26 Ion 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: The memorandum referred to in the second Question has been considered. I find, after consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Production, that it is not possible at the present time to resume shipments of esparto grass. The considerations brought forward in the memorandum will be borne in mind whenever it becomes possible to expand our imports.

Oral Answers to Questions — Esparto Grass (Imports) (26 Ion 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: No, Sir. We are able to substitute another material for esparto grass.

Oral Answers to Questions — Esparto Grass (Imports) (26 Ion 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: Yes, Sir.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Penicillin (19 Ion 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: With regard to the supply of penicillin, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for North-East Leeds (Mr. Craik Henderson) and the hon. and gallant Member for East Leicester (Major Lyons). on 16th December last. Before any penicillin is allotted for civilian use, which cannot be for some time yet, my right hon. Friend will consult my right hon. Friend...

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Penicillin (19 Ion 1944)

Mr Charles Peat: I should like to have notice of that Question.

Oral Answers to Questions — Measuring Instruments and Machines Order (15 Rha 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: The object of the provision is to enable the Ministry to attach conditions regarding such matters as the period of validity of the licence, notification to the Ministry of the delivery of the article and the supplier from whom the licensee may acquire the article. It would be cumbrous and inconvenient to have to include in the Order a statement of any such incidental conditions which may from...

Oral Answers to Questions — Scrap Metal Salvage (New Arrangements) (30 Tach 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: With your permission, Mr. Speaker, I wish to make a statement relating to the collection and segregation of iron and steel municipal scrap referred to in Question 95 on the Order Paper to-day which has not been reached. The statement is a matter of some importance and should, believe, be communicated to the House. The greater part of this material is destructor scrap, consisting of empty...

Oral Answers to Questions — Scrap Metal Salvage (New Arrangements) (30 Tach 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: Yes, Sir; steps are being taken to-day to make a public announcement to this effect, and the local authorities are being asked to communicate with their people.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Revoked Orders (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: This information is clearly set out in the preamble to the Order, and it was thought unnecessary to repeat it in the explanatory note.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Revoked Orders (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: In my understanding of it, I thought they were clearly set out.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Revoked Orders (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: As I understand it, the question whether or not an explanatory note should be attached is one for the Minister to decide.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Revoked Orders (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: In this case the Order is perfectly plain, and if an explanatory note were added it could not be very much more explicit than the preamble to the Order itself.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Hendon Paper Works Company, Sunder-land (Contract) (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: I am advised that there is no term of the contract which entitles the company to reimbursement in the case in question, nor any liability on the Ministry of Supply outside the contract to make reimbursement.

Oral Answers to Questions — Ministry of Supply: Hendon Paper Works Company, Sunder-land (Contract) (30 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: That is another question. The Question which was asked to-day is whether we, the Ministry of Supply, accept any liability in this case. According to the best legal advice we have, under the terms of the contract we have no liability whatever.

Oral Answers to Questions — Trade and Commerce: Knitting Wool (Winding Contrivances) (29 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: The adoption of this suggestion would involve rewinding in the factory, for which I regret the additional labour is not available, and would also increase the cost of the wool.

Oral Answers to Questions — Trade and Commerce: Knitting Wool (Winding Contrivances) (29 Meh 1943)

Mr Charles Peat: That is not quite accurate. The wool has to be dyed, and you cannot dye wool on a bobbin or cheese or in a ball, and therefore if you have to rewind it after dyeing that does involve expense and labour.
