Supplementary Estimates 2009-10 — Department of Health: HM Revenue and Customs (10 Maw 2010)

Christopher Fraser: I have written to the Highways Agency about signage, pointing out that it is impossible to obtain accurate information about where a problem lies because only road numbers, as opposed to road and city names, can be put on the signs owing to shortage of space. Is that not nonsense, given all the other information that the agency is able to give us on the roads?

Opposition Day — [5th Allotted Day]: Local Government (Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk) ( 9 Maw 2010)

Christopher Fraser: How does the hon. Gentleman justify the extra cost to the taxpayer of a new unitary status for Norwich, which is not accepted by the rest of the county but which the rest of the county will be paying for?

Opposition Day — [5th Allotted Day]: Local Government (Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk) ( 9 Maw 2010)

Christopher Fraser: Does the hon. Gentleman accept that the Conservatives in Norfolk are united on one issue-the delivery of good services to the people of Norfolk at a sensible price? Anything that adds cost is anathema to all Conservatives, whatever the level at which they represent people in Norfolk.

Opposition Day — [5th Allotted Day]: Local Government (Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk) ( 9 Maw 2010)

Christopher Fraser: I am listening carefully to what the Minister is saying, but if I have got what she has just said right, how can the Government reconcile the unaffordability of the original Norwich city bid with the decision to take it forward regardless? How does she see the affordability problems that were initially identified being overcome? If she could respond in detail for us all, I would be most grateful.

[Frank Cook in the Chair] — Home Energy Efficiency ( 3 Maw 2010)

Christopher Fraser: Does the right hon. Gentleman agree that in rural areas such as Norfolk, where my constituency is located, an awful lot of retired people and pensioners have no choice but to use oil, because no other source of energy is available to them? They are penalised for living in a rural area and by the punitive costs that the oil companies place on them. Therefore, their poverty becomes worse.
