Felicity Buchan: The Social Care Grant is distributed as part of the Local Government Finance Statement. Towards the end of each calendar year, the Government publishes a consultation setting out its proposals for council tax referendum principles, business rates retention and allocation of numerous grants, including the Social Care Grant, for the following financial year. After the consultation closes and...

Written Answers — Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities: Social Rented Housing: Carpets (22 Mai 2024)

Felicity Buchan: I refer the Hon Member to the answer to Question UIN 26801 on 22 May 2024. There is currently no legislation for social housing landlords to provide floor coverings, nor is there any legislation for social housing landlords to strip floor coverings out between lets. We are looking at this as part of our ongoing review into the Decent Homes Standard (DHS).

Felicity Buchan: DLUHC Ministers and officials engage regularly with their counterparts in the devolved administrations to discuss a range of issues, including tackling homelessness and rough sleeping. I have recently visited Northern Ireland and met the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

Families in Temporary Accommodation (20 Mai 2024)

Felicity Buchan: I start by thanking the hon. Member for Mitcham and Morden (Dame Siobhain McDonagh), both for securing this important debate and for raising such important issues. I was delighted to work with her and her APPG on the new homelessness code of guidance for cots in temporary accommodation, and I look forward to working with her on other matters. The whole House will agree that every child and...

Families in Temporary Accommodation (20 Mai 2024)

Felicity Buchan: Yes, and I will go on to explain what the Government are doing. One of our schemes is the local authority housing fund, through which we have given £1.2 billion to local authorities so that they can build and purchase housing, both for recent arrivals such as Ukrainians and Afghans and for temporary accommodation. I believe that the hon. Lady’s Borough of Merton was a beneficiary in round...

Families in Temporary Accommodation (20 Mai 2024)

Felicity Buchan: The local housing allowance has been uprated to the 30th percentile, which means people should be able to afford the bottom 30% of properties on that allowance; the intention is not that they can afford every property. The provision falls under the Department for Work and Pensions, but there is an ongoing commitment to review the local housing allowance. Ultimately, we all want to avoid...

Felicity Buchan: This Government is committed to tackling homelessness. We are investing over £1.2 billion in the Homelessness Prevention Grant over three years to help councils prevent homelessness and provide temporary accommodation, including a £109 million top-up announced at Autumn Statement for 2024/25. The Local Authority Housing Fund enables councils in England to buy or build housing stock to...

Felicity Buchan: This Government is committed to tackling all forms of homelessness including youth homelessness. The Government’s ‘Ending Rough Sleeping for Good’ Strategy, published in 2022 and backed by £2.4 billion, recognises young people face particular challenges.
