Attorney General: Crown Prosecution Service: Performance in Wales (20 Hyd 2022)

Craig Williams: What recent assessment he has made of the performance of the Crown Prosecution Service in Wales.

Attorney General: Crown Prosecution Service: Performance in Wales (20 Hyd 2022)

Craig Williams: The CPS and magistrates courts in Wales have done a terrific job. In fact, they were the first to recover from the pre-pandemic backlog. I recently met Jenny Hopkins, the excellent director of the CPS, and I would encourage and ask the Minister to come to Wales, especially a rural setting such as Montgomeryshire, and have a roundtable to discuss access to justice.

Written Answers — Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport: Economic Growth (18 Hyd 2022)

Craig Williams: To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to support (a) community based businesses, (b) social enterprises and (c) trading charities in contributing to growth in the local economy.

Levelling Up, Housing and Communities: Investment Zones: Impact on the Environment (17 Hyd 2022)

Craig Williams: What assessment he has made with Cabinet colleagues of the potential impact of investment zones on the environment.

Levelling Up, Housing and Communities: Investment Zones: Impact on the Environment (17 Hyd 2022)

Craig Williams: I welcome the commitment from the Dispatch Box to get investment zones established in Wales with the Welsh Government. The Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, with which I am working closely, are seeking reassurances from those on the Front Bench about all the environmental protections we have on the statute books. We welcome investment zones and...

Business of the House (22 Med 2022)

Craig Williams: The air ambulance is a vital service for many areas of the United Kingdom, and none more so than the rural areas of mid-Wales. Wales Air Ambulance is a great charity that is very dear to the hearts of my constituents, and something we support all year round. The bases are being reconfigured, however, and the air ambulance at Welshpool airport, of which we are very proud, looks to be moved...

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Labour Shortages: Agriculture and Fishing ( 8 Med 2022)

Craig Williams: I welcome the new Secretary of State and the Minister to their positions, and I look forward to working with them. A number of those at Montgomeryshire agricultural shows raised the issue of labour shortages, and while it is great to have record levels of unemployment in Montgomeryshire, we need people in our dairy farms, our abattoirs and across our food sector. Can I implore the Minister,...

Attorney General: CPS in Mid-Wales ( 7 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: What recent assessment she has made of the performance of the Crown Prosecution Service in Mid Wales.

Attorney General: CPS in Mid-Wales ( 7 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: I thank the Attorney General for her answer, and it is good to see her in her place. I also pay tribute to Jenny Hopkins, the Chief Crown Prosecutor for Wales. As the Attorney General said, I met her recently, and she and her team are doing a terrific job. However, the court backlog in Mid Wales—rural Wales—is still quite spectacular. What is the Attorney General doing to deal with the...

Wales: Cross-border Healthcare ( 6 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: What discussions the Government have had with the Welsh Government on the adequacy of cross-border healthcare provision.

Wales: Cross-border Healthcare ( 6 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: I thank the Minister for that answer, and I am delighted that my hon. Friend the Member for Shrewsbury and Atcham (Daniel Kawczynski) is to the left of me. We have been working hard to try to get the Welsh Government and the Department of Health and Social Care together to talk about ambulance times. My constituents are suffering, because if they get into a Welsh ambulance or an English...

Justice: Courts System ( 5 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: What steps his Department is taking to modernise the courts system.

Justice: Courts System ( 5 Gor 2022)

Craig Williams: I thank the Minister for his substantive reply. Modernising the courts system is essential if we are to clear the covid backlog and get victims the justice they need. I ask him to update the House on video technology and remote hearings, and how they can help.

Business of the House (23 Meh 2022)

Craig Williams: I notice on the Order Paper that the restoration and renewal motion has been tabled. I welcome the proactiveness of the Leader of the House on the issue. Can he let the House know how individual Members can take part?

Northern Ireland: Northern Ireland Protocol Negotiations (22 Meh 2022)

Craig Williams: The EU is rightfully focused on protecting its own single market, but may I respectfully request that we first and foremost protect the single market of the United Kingdom? Will my right hon. Friend confirm that the practical and durable solution set out in the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill will do just that?

Industrial Action on the Railway (20 Meh 2022)

Craig Williams: It is sad that the Labour Front-Bench team will not condemn the strikes that are happening tomorrow, but in Wales, Labour is going further and denying their existence. In my constituency, which I assure the House is in Wales, there are no strikes tomorrow, Thursday and Saturday—Labour is calling them “travel disruption”. I ask the Secretary of State not to forget about Wales and to make...

Prime Minister: Engagements (25 Mai 2022)

Craig Williams: On Monday at 3.25 pm, a school bus crashed into a group of schoolchildren in Llanfair Caereinion. Three children were airlifted to hospital, with another child and the bus driver taken by ambulance, and a fifth child was discharged at the scene. Everyone is in a stable condition. Clearly, this is a tragic accident that will stay with the community for some time. Will the Prime Minister join...

Transport: Railways: Connectivity (19 Mai 2022)

Craig Williams: What steps his Department is taking to connect more towns to the railway network.
