Kettering General Hospital: Redevelopment (22 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I thank the Minister for the start of her response, which has been very constructive. I support the Hospital 2.0 programme and its standardised design of the 40 new hospitals—that is great. Kettering General Hospital has already submitted its first two business cases for the main scheme. Instead of having to resubmit them all over again, please could it simply submit an addendum, so that it...

Kettering General Hospital: Redevelopment (22 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I thank the Minister for her reassurance. The purpose of these debates is to put pressure on the Government—that is the way Parliament works—but would she join me in applying gentle pressure on the trust? The sooner it can get the full business case in, the sooner the thing can be approved and the funds can start to flow.

Kettering General Hospital: Redevelopment (22 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I thank both my hon. Friend and the Hospitals Minister for their involvement. It is right, is it not, that this two-week turnaround is a novel feature of the new hospital programme? It is a groundbreaking approval process that will turn the application round that quickly. Where Kettering leads, others surely will follow.

Kettering General Hospital: Redevelopment (22 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: It is a pleasure to see you in the Chair, Mr Deputy Speaker. I thank the Minister for her attendance and I thank Mr Speaker for granting me permission to hold this special debate. This is my 12th special parliamentary debate on Kettering General Hospital since May 2007; seven of those debates have been since September 2019, so the House is familiar with the subject. The reason I keep applying...

Business of the House (21 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I bring good news from Kettering, where Sainsbury’s supermarket has restored free parking during the evenings in its town centre car park. It had planned to introduce charges for out-of-hours parking, but it has listened to local opinion and representations from me, Kettering Civic Society and others, and has amended its plans. That is great news for those in the close vicinity, such as the...

Access to Migraine Treatment — [David Mundell in the Chair] (20 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I congratulate my hon. Friend on her powerful and extremely well informed speech. One of those 10,000 in the Kettering constituency is Lisa, who has written to me to say, “I spend most of my weeks, either with a migraine or with the after effects, which include complete exhaustion that can last two or three days. I have medication that does not always work. I get facial paralysis and will...

Music Education (19 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I thank the Minister for his response so far. Encouragingly, he is moving in the right direction. Does he recognise that Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust has warmly embraced the publication of the Government national plan for music education, the title of which is “The power of music to change lives”? Is the Minister impressed by the reach of NMPAT to over 53,000 children...

Music Education (19 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: My right hon. and learned Friend is making an excellent speech, and I congratulate him on securing the debate. Does he agree that NMPAT’s reach across all of our constituencies in Northamptonshire is truly impressive? Last year it educated in music more than 53,000 children and young people, with its dedicated staff of 200 employees. Is that not an example that other music hubs should follow?

Music Education (19 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: My right hon. and learned Friend continues to make an excellent speech. Perhaps we could hear from the Minister his thinking about the principle that my right hon. and learned Friend is highlighting: why should the Government fully fund extra employer contributions for teachers in schools who are delivering the Government’s national curriculum, but not fully fund the extra contributions for...

Child Trust Funds (19 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I commend my right hon. Friend for his superb speech. He has approached this debate in an extremely constructive fashion, with a common-sense, straightforward solution to the problem. We do not need to reinvent the wheel; we just need to apply common sense. Child trust funds are a wonderful advantage to many young people, but the most vulnerable are missing out. My right hon. Friend has...

Business of the House (14 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I bring good news from Kettering, because Kettering has made it into the top 10 of the most dog-loving places in the UK. A study by pet insurer Waggel has found that, in Kettering, for every 1,000 people there were 252 of our furry friends. With so many local green spaces and countryside areas where residents can take their dog for a walk, such as the hugely popular Wicksteed park, it is...

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: British Produce (14 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: What steps he is taking to encourage supermarkets to promote British produce.

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: British Produce (14 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: One of the best ways we can support British farmers is by choosing to buy British food. It is good for the environment, reduces food miles and improves our food security, because we are importing less produce. Will my right hon. Friend the Farming Minister join me in specifically congratulating Morrisons, Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Ocado, which all now have the “buy British” button online so...

Attorney General: Victims of Crime (14 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: What steps the Crown Prosecution Service is taking to improve the experience of victims of crime in Kettering constituency.

Attorney General: Victims of Crime (14 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: I thank the Crown Prosecution Service for the work it does in prosecuting offenders and seeking justice for victims in Kettering. What overall assessment has the Solicitor General made of the effectiveness of the CPS across the east midlands?

Business and Trade: Topical Questions ( 7 Maw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: Kettering is the beating heart of the east midlands economy, so will the Secretary of State be kind enough to facilitate a visit from her ministerial team to Ball Corporation in Burton Latimer? It has the newest, largest and most modern aluminium can manufacturing plant in Europe and a fantastic example of the very best of successful foreign direct investment into the UK economy.

Backbench Business: Eating Disorders Awareness Week — [Mr Philip Hollobone in the Chair] (29 Chw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: We now come to the Front Benchers, the first of whom will be Patricia Gibson for the SNP.

Backbench Business: Eating Disorders Awareness Week — [Mr Philip Hollobone in the Chair] (29 Chw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: This debate can last until 4.30 pm. I am obliged to call the Front Benchers no later than 3.57 pm and the guideline limits are 10 minutes for the SNP, 10 minutes for His Majesty’s Opposition and 10 minutes for the Minister. Then the mover of the motion will have two or three minutes at the end to sum up the debate. In the meantime, it is Back-Bench time. I call Olivia Blake to speak.

Culture, Media and Sport: Gala Bingo Hall: Kettering (22 Chw 2024)

Philip Hollobone: If she will meet promoters of the bid to the cultural development fund to restore the Gala Bingo hall in Kettering.
