Written Answers — Northern Ireland: Prisons: Alcoholic Drinks ( 8 Rha 2009)

Iris Robinson: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on how many occasions illicit alcoholic beverages have been found in the Sperrin unit of HM Prison Magilligan in the last five years.

Written Answers — Northern Ireland: Sexual Offences ( 7 Rha 2009)

Iris Robinson: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) how many sex offenders were housed in dormitory accommodation in HM Prison Magilligan (a) in the nine months up to August 2009 and (b) on the latest date for which figures are available; on what authority they were so housed; and what steps have been taken to move them to single cell accommodation; (2) how many sex offenders have...

Oral Answers to Questions — Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Gary McKinnon (Extradition) ( 1 Rha 2009)

Iris Robinson: The decision will grate on the people of Northern Ireland, who for years have witnessed political and judicial protection for IRA terrorist murderers who fled to America and were never extradited despite many requests. In the light of that, will the Secretary of State reconsider his view?

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Neglect of Children and Young People (24 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I thank the Member for giving way. She will have another minute to expound on her presentation. Does the Member agree that an area that requires urgent attention is that of teenage pregnancies? Many of those young girls have been abused or brought up in dysfunctional family units. They have no parenting skills, and a vicious circle is created when their children are subsequently abused.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Childcare Vouchers (24 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I support the motion and congratulate my colleagues for bringing it to the House today. The motion is timely and addresses an issue that is very important to our constituents. Scrapping the childcare vouchers scheme will directly affect families who are in the low-income bracket. Gordon Brown and, indeed, his predecessor, Tony Blair, have done enough to destroy family life and the family unit...

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Childcare Vouchers (24 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I do not think that it is asking too much to ensure that low-income families in particular get the help that they need to get back to work, given that that is what this Government have been trying to achieve. They want to get people out of the benefit culture and back into the workplace.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Childcare Vouchers (24 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: Does the Member agree that if the Government were to stop benefits simply because they also reach middle- to upper-bracket earners, no one would receive those benefits? It is a bogus excuse.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: How did the Member feel when she was allowed to walk in through the back door of the old Northern Ireland Forum because she did not achieve a mandate from the electorate, but was brought in by the top 10 list of parties and their votes? She was not elected by the people. We are. That is the difference.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: You were on the top 10 list.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I beg your pardon.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: Even during the wet weather?

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: Does the Member agree that some Members are losing sight of the fact that the electorate decided the name against which they would put their X or their 1, 2 or 3? At no time did our party try to hide the fact that we would represent the electorate at Westminster and in the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Private Members’ Business: Double-jobbing (23 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: There is a lot of shouting from the other end. Will the Member clarify that double mandates are very different from double-jobbing? Double-jobbing is when one is an elected Member and, like William Hague, has extraordinary jobs outside of Parliament. [Interruption.] How many of you have double jobs outside of politics?

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Committee Business: Obesity (16 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I, too, thank my Committee colleagues, officials, and respondents to our inquiry; it proved to be a successful road to go down. Obesity causes great concern, not only in the Health Service, but in other areas of government. I support the motion on the obesity report and call on the Health Minister to read it and to act on its recommendations. The Health Service exists to treat and to care for...

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Committee Business: Obesity (16 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: There are cost implications not only for our Health Service but for our economy and wider society. The report highlights the comments that were made by the representatives of the Institute of Public Health, who told us that: “The loss of productivity and the costs of care and treatment of obesity and related conditions have serious effects on the economy and threaten to engulf the health...

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Committee Business: Obesity (16 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: They went on to say that: “Obesity is estimated to cause 450 deaths per year, £14·2 million in lost productivity and £90 million cost to health and social care.”

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Committee Business: Obesity (16 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: I support the motion.

Cynulliad Gogledd Iwerddon: Health, Social Services and Public Safety: Swine Flu: Vaccination (16 Tach 2009)

Iris Robinson: Will the Minister indicate whether he has any figures or feedback on the take-up of the vaccine from schools for children with special needs?
