Oral Answers to Questions — Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Dangerous Dogs (25 Maw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: In the horrific case of John Paul Massey in my constituency, a focus on the breed disrupted and undermined the partnership that needs to work between a housing association and the police when the public report concerns about the behaviour of dogs. Chipping dogs and encouraging owners to be trained in ownership, not focusing on the breed, is the way forward.

Oral Answers to Questions — Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Topical Questions (25 Maw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: Thank you, Mr. Speaker. It is my swansong too, and I am grateful for your generosity. Has my hon. Friend seen early-day motion 1142? Does he accept that it ought to be a matter of concern to the Government that a decision at Warwick university, which I perfectly understand, is risking the applied science research base in agriculture and horticulture in the UK? It would be very helpful if...

Written Answers — Health: Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust ( 8 Maw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) when he expects to make a decision on the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital's Trust's building project; and if he will make a statement; (2) what recent representations he has received on the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital's Trust's proposed building project; and if he will make a statement.

Written Answers — Health: Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital ( 8 Maw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) when he expects to make a decision on the Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital building project; and if he will make a statement; (2) what recent representations he has received on the Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital building project; and if he will make a statement.

Oral Answers to Questions — Health: Reciprocal Health Care Agreement (23 Chw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: Does my right hon. Friend agree that the success or otherwise of the reciprocal health care agreement with the Isle of Man has depended on the excellence of the hospital care available, particularly in Liverpool? Will he undertake to do everything in his power to advance the building projects at the Royal Liverpool University hospital and Alder Hey in particular, as there is some anxiety...

Oral Answers to Questions — Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Food Labelling ( 4 Chw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: Will my hon. Friend give my greetings to the taskforce, and will he come shopping with me when I visit my local Sainsbury's, Aldi, Tesco and Co-op? [ Interruption. ] If there were a Waitrose I would shop there, too. All those supermarkets now have on their shelves products across the whole range that have their origin on the label, in some cases including the county of origin. No discerning...

Oral Answers to Questions — Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: Topical Questions ( 4 Chw 2010)

Jane Kennedy: David Taylor's absence this morning is indeed marked. Does the Secretary of State agree that the quality of the farmed environment is as important to those of us who live in cities as it is to those who are fortunate enough to live and work in the countryside? Will he give us a progress report on the campaign for the farmed environment?

Oral Answers to Questions — Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Iran (19 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: Is it not true that the Iranian regime rejected a visit of Members of the European Parliament recently for fear that they might meet opposition politicians in Iran? [ Interruption. ] Will my right hon. Friend extend an invitation to opposition members in Iran to visit Britain to visit him as Foreign Secretary and will he offer the opportunity to Members of this Parliament to meet them?

Oral Answers to Questions — Foreign and Commonwealth Office: Topical Questions (19 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: Did my right hon. Friend hear the comments by Khalil al-Hayya yesterday in which he roundly rejected the Egyptian proposals for reconciliation on the Egyptian border with Gaza? Does not that clearly indicate the responsibility that Hamas carries for the suffering of its own people?

Oral Answers to Questions — Health: NHS (Charitable Funding) (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: What are the latest figures for charitable giving to the Royal Liverpool Children's NHS Trust? If my hon. Friend does not have those figures to hand, may I, through him, pass on an invitation from the hospital to our right hon. Friend the Secretary of State? The hospital invites the Secretary of State to visit it so that, on his way to Goodison Park, he can see for himself the tremendous...

[Mr. Jim Hood in the Chair] (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: I am sorry to interrupt my hon. Friend when he is in full flow. The EU passed a view on that point, but may I press him on the matter? Will the EU, and my hon. Friend in discussion with other Ministers, do more than take a view and come together to see whether solutions cannot be found to help Israel find ways to open the border crossing?

Goldstone Report (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: It is a pleasure to be here this morning, and I congratulate my hon. Friend the Member for Battersea (Martin Linton) on securing the debate about British Government policy regarding the report of Judge Richard Goldstone following his investigation into Operation Cast Lead. Although I concur with my hon. Friend on his description of the eminence of Judge Goldstone and his team, I will say...

Goldstone Report (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: I will give way in a moment. There are victims on Israel's side, too. I must at this point declare an interest, regarding a visit I made to Israel with Labour Friends of Israel in September, when the Judge's report was published. During that visit I was fortunate to meet around 20 young men and women who lived in Sterodt, in the south of Israel. They had seen their classmates killed, blown up...

Goldstone Report (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: It is precisely those sort of issues that could have been looked at had the Goldstone report's remit not been so narrowly drawn by the UN Human Rights Council. The hon. Gentleman is my hon. Friend, but I disagree profoundly with him on this. I agree with the US Assistant Secretary of State, Michael Posner, who has accused the Human Rights Council of "paying grossly disproportionate attention...

Goldstone Report (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: If my hon. and learned Friend will allow me, I will make some progress. More should be done to help ease the situation in Gaza. The EU announced last January its willingness to reactivate its border assistance mission at the Rafah crossing, but conditions have militated against that. Instead of admonishing Israel for seeking to protect its citizens from attack, will our Government work with...

Goldstone Report (12 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: My hon. Friend has spent 11 minutes-12 minutes now-of what is a very important and interesting contribution to a critical debate concentrating entirely on the allegations faced by the Israeli military and Government surrounding the events of Operation Cast Lead. Is he going to make the same mistake that I believe Judge Goldstone has made in focusing entirely on the one side-the democratic...

Oral Answers to Questions — Defence: Veteran Support (11 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: What arrangements his Department has put in place to assist veterans injured in service to access the services of Jobcentre Plus employment advisers when the veteran is in receipt of a veteran's pension provided by the Veterans Agency; and if he will make a statement.

Oral Answers to Questions — Defence: Veteran Support (11 Ion 2010)

Jane Kennedy: I thank my hon. Friend for that answer. Will he look again at the case of Mr. William Harvey? After 17 years of distinguished service in the British Army, during which he was injured on three occasions, in Bosnia and in Northern Ireland, he has been in receipt of Veterans Agency support as compensation for his injuries, but he is therefore unable to receive jobseeker's allowance. The...

Oral Answers to Questions — Home Department: Police Services (Administrative Burden) (14 Rha 2009)

Jane Kennedy: If it appears that the administrative burdens of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 contributed in any way-however small-to the tragic death of four-year-old John Paul Massey in my constituency last month, will my right hon. Friend agree to review it? Will he also call for a detailed report from Merseyside police and the Independent Police Complaints Commission, who are investigating the matter, so...

Oral Answers to Questions — Health: Topical Questions (24 Tach 2009)

Jane Kennedy: Will my right hon. Friend take a personal interest in the two capital building projects, part of the £1.2 billion committed to Liverpool hospitals by the Government, the Liverpool university hospital and the Royal Liverpool children's hospital, both of which are critical to the future delivery of hospital services to Liverpool?
