After hundreds of years, there must be an updated electoral petition procedure. However, we are not yet ready; the Electoral Commission has not yet carried out its work in building a consensus as to what the alternative should be. Far be it from me to suggest that we should be like the Home Office and introduce Bills one year after the other. However, during the progress of this Bill, we have identified a number of issues that we must examine further. I am making something of a pitch because we may need to legislate again in due course. I cannot make any promises on that, but it will not be during the Report stage.
