Such a measure is not unprecedented. The reason for the difference in the wording arises from the fact that the Criminal Justice Act 1987 is about the disclosure of information. Clause 337 deals with production orders, which are about producing material. The Criminal Justice Act 1987 gives the Serious Fraud Office the power to require from a solicitor disclosure of his client's name and address, but no more than that.
