Part of Oral Answers to Questions — Children, Schools and Families – in the House of Commons am 3:31 pm ar 12 Hydref 2009.
In 2008, I spoke in the House about defending the jobs in the Tote in Wigan, in my constituency and that of my hon. Friend Mr. Turner. After meetings with Downing street and the Minister at the time, a commitment was given that, in any future sale, the jobs and the investment in north-west Wigan would be protected. Will my right hon. Friend give a commitment that that is exactly what will happen? The first I heard as a local Member of Parliament about the 600 jobs and the sale was over my porridge at six o'clock this morning.

What a pity McCartney is not asking questions about the five schools with playing fields, Lowton Civic Hall and acres of green belt land, all wholly owned by Wigan Council. They are being sold off to developers and a monster school is to be built with PFI. He and Turner should stand down NOW and not hang on to line there pockets and continue wreaking my town.
