I explained this in our previous debate. The hon. Member must accept responsibility for what he does here for his own Constituency. He must not seek to push the blame on the Labour Party. I am here only to explain our attitude to a proposal put by the Government. It is a matter for the Government, and if the hon. and learned Gentleman votes with the Government, as is his normal practice and intention, it is no use his trying to push responsibility on to the Labour Party and saying that it was all to do with something said by my right hon. Friend the Member for Blackburn (Mrs. Castle) in 1966.
In a general election, each Constituency chooses an MP to represent them. MPs have a responsibility to represnt the views of the Constituency in the House of Commons. There are 650 Constituencies, and thus 650 MPs. A citizen of a Constituency is known as a Constituent
