This humble Petition which I seek to present to the House comes from 1,117 farmers and landowners in my Constituency in the County of Montgomery. Its Prayer is that this honourable House should not approve the proposal to establish a rural development board in the designated part of Montgomeryshire. The signatories of the Petition represent over 90 per cent. of the farmers and landowners affected by the proposal. The Petitioners object to the Board and say it is in no way justified; nor was there any evidence at the public inquiry that justified the imposition of such a board.
In a general election, each Constituency chooses an MP to represent them. MPs have a responsibility to represnt the views of the Constituency in the House of Commons. There are 650 Constituencies, and thus 650 MPs. A citizen of a Constituency is known as a Constituent
