Mr Robert Grimston
, Westbury
12:00,
13 Ebrill 1948
asked the Secretary of State for War if he is prepared to make huts at Hill Camp and Victoria Camp, Westbury, available for civilian use, seeing that many of them have been empty for a considerable period and the local housing shortage is acute.
Mr Emanuel Shinwell
, Seaham
Hill Camp, Westbury, is no longer required by my Department and has been notified to the Ministry of Works as redundant. The vacant accommodation at Victoria Camp, which is built on War Department land, is required by my Department for the construction of married soldiers' quarters.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
