asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs for what reason Press messages from Vienna have still to be passed through the Allied Censorship Office before transmission; and whether the retention of this censorship is approved by all the Powers comprising the Allied Control Commission.

Allied Press messages from Austria are not censored by Allied authorities, Owing to unilateral action by the Soviet element at the end of August, however, Press messages are being delayed up to one hour longer than formerly. This is because the stamps on Press despatches have now to be checked by an Austrian official at the Telegraph Censorship station, instead of at the transmittings station itself. The British and U.S. elements have protested against this action, and the Soviet element have promised to re-examine the question.
