asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why there is obstruction of attempts by social workers in Germany to discover the names, addresses and numbers of German unmarried mothers of children by British fathers; and whether he will take steps to facilitate the efforts of these investigators particularly in view of the hardship from which these mothers and their children are suffering.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
