asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to investigate, and give an assurance to the House, that unnecessary force is not being used by the police authorities in connection with the strike at the Savoy Hotel.

I am satisfied that the police are fully aware that they must use no more force than is reasonable and necessary for the purpose of enforcing the law. It would not be proper for me to make any comment on the conduct of the police in connection with the strike at the Savoy Hotel while certain proceedings taken by the police are sub judice.

Without prejudging the outcome of any proceedings that may be pending, will my right hon. Friend investigate this aspect of the matter after the pending proceedings have come-to an end?

I prefer to make no further comment on the matter while the proceedings are pending.
