In 1946 orders were placed on behalf of Government Departments for 2,870 cars and 1,990 commercial vehicles. For the first six months of 1947 the orders were 872 and 5,642, respectively.

Will the Minister investigate the use to which these private cars were put, in view of the fact that the use by officials of cars in such large numbers offends the public, following the cutting-off of the basic petrol ration?

As far as I am aware, these cars are used efficiently and economically. If the hon. Gentleman has any evidence to the contrary, I shall be grateful if he will let me know.
