asked the Secretary of State for War what amount of petrol was used for the Forces in Greece from January to August, 1947; how this rate of consumption compares with that in other commands; and whether he is satisfied that no petrol is being wasted on unauthorised journeys.
Approximately 10,000 tons. The per capita petrol consumption in Greece is the lowest in all Commands abroad except Gibraltar. I have no reason to suppose that petrol is being wasted in Greece. A strict system of petrol accounting is employed there as elsewhere.
As my highly esteemed right hon. Friend—[Laughter]. Members opposite may laugh but I speak for the workers and not for the Tories—is aware, I have received several communications on this question and will he look into the matter again?
Certainly, if my hon. Friend will let me have the details.
