Mrs. Manning:
asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the success which has attended the recent marketing of horticultural products directly from producer to consumer, he will undertake a thorough investigation into the distribution of perishable foodstuffs in this country, with a view to the elimination of waste and the undue profits of middle men.
A start has already been made by the Fruit and Vegetable (Marketing and Distribution) Organisation which has been set up by the Minister of Agriculture, the Secretary of State for Scotland and myself. I am glad to say my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food has become Chairman of the Organisation.
