Oral Answers to Questions — Food Supplies – in the House of Commons am 12:00 am ar 2 Gorffennaf 1947.
asked the Minister of Food if he will consider so amending the Food (Conditions of Sale) Order as to make it an offence for a fish frier to refuse to sell chips to a customer unless he also buys fish.
Fish and chips are so well known as a composite dish that I do not think I should be justified in seeking to compel fish friers to supply them separately.
Does not the Minister consider that a conditional sale is indefensible in any circumstances?
The dish in a restaurant is very often a composite dish and the ingredients cannot be sold separately.
