asked the Minister of Education whether, in considering the applications of local authorities for compulsory purchase orders to secure land for the implementation of school building programmes, he will ensure that those cases in which demolition of occupied houses is necessary shall be delayed until housing accommodation is more plentiful and in any case shall not be dealt with before those in which no destruction of housing accommodoation is required.
In considering proposals to acquire land, whether by agreement or compulsory purchase, my right hon. Friend always has regard to the nature of any buildings already erected on the land. Furthermore, under Defence Regulation 68 C.A., housing accommodation cannot be diverted to non-residential purposes without the consent of the housing authority.
