Oral Answers to Questions — Employment – in the House of Commons am 12:00 am ar 10 Mehefin 1947.
asked the Minister of Labour how many meetings have been held by the Cost-of-Living Advisory Committee; when the final report will be ready; and whether the Government propose to take immediate action on it.
The Cost-of-Living Advisory Committee has held six meetings, and a technical committee appointed to prepare a detailed plan for the new index has held eleven meetings. I am unable to say when a final report by the latter committee will be available for approval by the Advisory Committee. I cannot say what action the Government will take until the report has been received
In view of the importance of this matter, will the Minister give an assurance that when the report is ready it will be published with the record of the evidence?
I could not give such an undertaking at present, but, knowing how interested the House and the country are in this matter, I will give a full and detailed statement and will publish some information on Thursday, when there is a Question down on this matter.
