asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the unavoidable shortfall in the 1947 potato acreage, he will initiate a Press campaign to secure the maximum planting of potatoes in gardens and allotments.

I intend to use all the publicity resources at my disposal to emphasize that it is more essential even than in the war years to secure the maximum contribution to our food supplies next winter from allotments and gardens. This applies equally to potatoes and other vegetables, and I consider that a proper balance between these two classes of crops should be preserved on the lines set out in the cropping plans issued by my Department.
