asked the Minister of Pensions if he is aware that issues of stump socks for wear with artificial limbs have now been reduced to three for six months; that many limbless ex-Servicemen will soon be unable, in consequence, to wear their artificial limbs and to follow their employment; and what steps he is taking to remedy the present unsatisfactory position.

Issues of stump stocks have been reduced from four to three at a time, except in new cases, because of a temporary shortage. The reduction should not have the consequences suggested by the hon. Member, but if, exceptionally, any limbless man finds himself in a position of real difficulty he should get in touch with his local limb fitting centre, who will help him if possible. Every firm known to be in the trade has been approached, and certain small additional supplies should become available. There is, however, a definite shortage of certain types of skilled labour in this particular industry.

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that on medical grounds it is extremely desirable that limbless men should have a sufficient number of stump socks; and will he give some priority in this matter?

Yes, I am aware of that, and because of it we are making every effort to bring this up to the traditional issue.
