asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what reply has been received from the Brazilian Government as a result of His Majesty's Government's communication on the Brazilian Central Bank's refusal to continue the acceptance of sterling.

Can the Chancellor give an assurance that no further negotiations will take place between the Treasury and the Brazil Government over the settlement of the British sterling debt or the transfer of British owned Brazilian assets, until Brazil has honoured her international agreement?

I do not believe in giving vague and general undertakings of that sort. We are anxious to do the best in the interests of the country. Perhaps the hon. and gallant Member will wait; before long he may get a reply.
