asked the Minister of Supply the number of civil servants employed by his Department in London and the provinces on 1st January, 1946, and 1947.

The number of non-industrial civil servants employed in the Ministry of Supply on 1st January, 1946, was 59,933, of whom approximately 38,500 were located in the provinces. The corresponding figures for 1st January, 1947, were 42,056 and 26,000.
