asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the loss he is causing to be sustained by home manufacturers, and the damage to future trade prospects, by refusing export licences for mixed yeast and meat extracts to South Africa where there is a large demand; and whether he will now lift this embargo.

These exports are at present prohibited under the general restriction of exports of scarce foods which was imposed last April because of the serious food situation. Supplies of meat extracts, however, have improved since then, and I am glad to be abe to tell my hon. Friend that I am proposing to relax the export restrictions on them. Full particulars will be announced by my Department within the next few days.

Is my right hon. Friend aware that that will be looked upon as a matter of wisdom on the part of his Department?
