Oral Answers to Questions — Post Office – in the House of Commons am 12:00 am ar 29 Ionawr 1947.
asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is aware of the poor reception of the B.B.C. in the West Indies; and what steps he proposes to take to improve it.
According to my information, reception of B.B.C. programmes in the West Indies is not below the standard normally expected of short-wave transmissions over such long distances.
Would not the hon. Gentleman look into this matter again? Is he aware that it is possible in the West Indies to pick up any programme except the B.B.C. unless a very expensive set is used?
This programme is transmitted on eight wave lengths during the day because of changes in climatic conditions, and it may be that people are not getting the right wave length.
As I am broadcasting on Thursday, will the hon. Gentleman take immediate action in this matter?
