asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is customary for the deputy mayor of a non-county borough to act as J.P. and in this capacity sit with the ordinary county magistrates to adjudicate on matters arising within the borough concerned.
The deputy mayor of a non-county borough is not, as such, a justice of the peace; if he is a justice of the peace in his personal capacity he is entitled to sit on the bench to which he is assigned.
