Oral Answers to Questions — Food Supplies. – in the House of Commons am ar 8 Tachwedd 1939.
Mr. Adamson:
asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster the number of advisory committees set up under the Ministry of Food; and what functions these committees fulfil in the distribution and supply of foodstuffs?
The Ministry of Food is at present assisted by 26 advisory committees, the function of which is to make available to the Ministry the advice and experience of their members.
Yes, Sir. As far as possible, all relevant considerations were taken into account.
Are the appointments unpaid?
I cannot answer definitely without notice, but my general impression is that they are all unpaid.
Is it not a fact that the trade members on these Committees are not allowed to confer with members of the trades concerned, so that in many cases the advice is not adequate?
I do not think that is the general position. These men are chosen for their experience of and contacts with the trades concerned. They have always given valuable advice.
