asked the Secretary for Mines whether the Mines Department have records as to when the different seams of coal in the various coalfields were commenced to be worked and when further operations are suspended; and, if not will he consider taking the necessary steps to have his Department supplied with this information?
If the hon. Member is referring to the working of the different seams at individual mines the owner, agent or manager is already required, under Section 19 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911, to notify the divisional inspector whenever any work is commenced for the purpose of opening a new seam; also when the working of any seam is discontinued or abandoned, and when working is resumed after discontinuance or abandonment.
