asked the Minister of Transport to what extent the proposals contained in the Bressey Report have been adopted; and how much work is actually in progress or completed with regard to this?

The following schemes embodied in the Bressey Report and affecting trunk roads, for which I am the highway authority, are being proceeded with: Cromwell Road extension in Middlesex, Crawley By-pass, Staines By-pass and Maidenhead By-pass. Steps have been taken to safeguard the line of the proposed new road from Coulsdon to Crawley. Other schemes in the report which are in progress or about to begin are the Dartford Tunnel and approaches, Blackwall Tunnel duplication, Cromwell Road extension in London, and Wands-worth Bridge and southern approach.

Can the Minister give any indication when the Cromwell Road extension is likely to be completed? Is it a question of years or will it be within a reasonable period?

I should not like to give a considered reply until I have seen that question on the Order Paper, but I am hoping that it will be completed in a year or so.

Will the Minister press the London County Council to see to the inward extension of Western Avenue?

I am always ready to press the London County Council as far as I can.

asked the Minister of Transport whether any of the proposals contained in the Bressey Report have been found unsuitable and definitely rejected, and if so, which?

Photo of Captain Euan Wallace Captain Euan Wallace , Hornsey

I am not aware that any of the schemes have been rejected on the grounds of unsuitability.

Can the right hon. and gallant Gentleman say whether they have been rejected on any other grounds, and if so, what?

It is not so much a question of their being rejected as of £s.d.
