asked the Paymaster-General, as representing the Lord President of the Council, whether he can give an assurance that in allocating money to the Medical Research Council for the formation of a cancer research unit he will make it a condition that no such grant shall be used for experiments on animals?

No, Sir. My Noble Friend would not be prepared to make any such condition.

Is the Noble Lord aware that these experiments for the purpose of finding a cure for cancer have been going on for well over 30 years without the slightest results, and that thousands of animals have been sacrificed and tortured?
