asked the Paymaster-General, as representing the Lord President of the Council, whether he can give an assurance that in allocating money to the Medical Research Council for the formation of a cancer research unit he will make it a condition that no such grant shall be used for experiments on animals?
The Paymaster-General (Earl Winter-ton):
No, Sir. My Noble Friend would not be prepared to make any such condition.
Is the Noble Lord aware that these experiments for the purpose of finding a cure for cancer have been going on for well over 30 years without the slightest results, and that thousands of animals have been sacrificed and tortured?
