Sir Nairne Stewart Sandeman:
asked the Home Secretary how many Basque children remain in this country and what steps are being taken to repatriate them?
About 2,000 of these children have already been repatriated, and the number now remaining in this country is 1,642, of whom another 40 will, I understand, return to their parents in Spain before Easter. The committee are anxious to restore all the children remaining in their care to Spain as speedily as possible and I am in consultation with the committee as to their plans for this purpose.
