asked the President of the Board of Trade the value of cotton goods, including apparel made of cotton, sent from the United Kingdom to Japan and from Japan to the United Kingdom in the years 1931, 1932, and the first quarter of 1933, respectively?

The total declared value of cotton goods, so far as they are separately recorded as such in the trade returns of the United Kingdom, imported into this country and consigned from Japan amounted to £605,000 in 1931, £286,000 in 1932 and £75,000 during January to March, 1933. The value of the domestic exports of such goods from this country consigned to Japan during these periods was £422,000, £332,000 and £85,000, respectively.
