(by Private Notice) asked the Lord President of the Council whether, in view of the importance of the statement which was made by the Chancellor of the exchequer at the World Economic Conference this morning on behalf of His Majesty's Government, arrangements will be made to reproduce the statement in the form of a white paper?

Yes, Sir. Arrangements are being made to publish the statement as a white paper, which will be issued as soon as possible. I learn that every endeavour will be made to get it out to-night, and at any rate it will be available to-morrow.

White Paper

A document issued by the Government laying out its policy, or proposed policy, on a topic of current concern.Although a white paper may occasion consultation as to the details of new legislation, it does signify a clear intention on the part of a government to pass new law. This is a contrast with green papers, which are issued less frequently, are more open-ended and may merely propose a strategy to be implemented in the details of other legislation.

Chancellor of the Exchequer

The chancellor of the exchequer is the government's chief financial minister and as such is responsible for raising government revenue through taxation or borrowing and for controlling overall government spending.

The chancellor's plans for the economy are delivered to the House of Commons every year in the Budget speech.

The chancellor is the most senior figure at the Treasury, even though the prime minister holds an additional title of 'First Lord of the Treasury'. He normally resides at Number 11 Downing Street.
