Part of the debate – in the House of Commons am ar 14 Mehefin 1933.
I have been asked to answer this question. The representations of the Central Council of Indian Associations in Uganda have taken the form of a request for the appointment of an equal number of Indian and of European members on the Legislative Council. The Uganda constitution does not, however, provide for the representation of different sections of the community on the Council, the unofficial members being appointed in their personal capacity. But the Governor of Uganda recently informed my right hon. Friend that in his opinion it will at the present time be in the interest of the Protectorate generally to have the advice of a second Indian member on the Council, and steps are being taken to give effect to his view.
