A new Law relating to elementary education was enacted last month. Its main object is to give the Government fuller control. Under this law the Governor becomes the central authority for all matters of elementary education, including curriculum and books. The Boards of Education are retained in an advisory capacity, and have certain powers with regard to rates raised by School Committees for maintenance.

Have the priests in Cyprus any control of or power of interference in education?

In future the appointment of teachers in what are called the elementary schools will be entirely under the control of the Governor.

Will the right hon. Gentleman try to find any places for English teachers in the schools in. Cyprus, particularly in connection with training colleges?
