No precise information is available as to the number of men in receipt of pre-War service pensions who served in the Great War, but it is estimated to be somewhat under 30,000. As regards the second part of the question, at the time of the Barnes Committee in 1924 the aggregate annual payments required by the proposal to increase pre-War service pensions, including those of the 2,500 ranker officers, on these lines was estimated to be £13,000,000; it would probably now be somewhat under £10,000,000.
