asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that an important telegram, despatched from York General Post Office at 8.40 p.m., marked 26th February, to Bridestowe, Devon, remained undelivered until the first postal delivery on 28th February; whether he will cause inquiries to be made; and, if no reasonable explanation is forthcoming, take disciplinary action?

There is no trace of such a telegram handed in at the York General Post Office on 26th February. A telegram, which is probably the one referred to, was handed in at York Railway Station Telegraph Office on Sunday, 27th February, at 4.40 p.m. The telegram was signalled forward in due course, but, as the Bridestowe Post Office is open on Sunday only between 9 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., it could not be transmitted to Bridestowe that day. It was forwarded for delivery by post the next morning—that being the earliest means of delivery.
