Oral Answers to Questions — Transport. – in the House of Commons am ar 23 Gorffennaf 1925.
Sir Richard Wells
, Bedford
asked the Secretary of State for Air (1) if he proposes to carry out any experimental flights with the airships R 33 or R 36 during August or September;
(2) when the repairs to the airship R33 will be completed?
Mr Samuel Hoare
, Chelsea
As stated in my reply yesterday to the hon. Member for West Willesden, the repairs to the R 33 should be complete by the middle of September, and the airship should be inflated and ready for flight three weeks later. As regards the R 36, the present estimated date of the completion of the repairs is the 31st December next. It is accordingly not anticipated that flights by either airship can be carried out during August or September.
Mr Harry Day
, Southwark Central
Can the right hon. Gentleman say what the total cost of these repairs will be?
Mr Samuel Hoare
, Chelsea
If a question is put down on the subject, I will give the hon. and gallant Member an answer. I think I have already answered the other questions.
Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
