Oral Answers to Questions — Government Departments. – in the House of Commons am ar 23 Gorffennaf 1925.
asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, with a view to economy, he will consider issuing third-class railway tickets instead of first-class to Members of Parliament where an all-night journey is not involved?
Mr. GUINNESS:
I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for the Attercliffe Division of Sheffield (Mr. Cecil Wilson) on the 19th February last, to the effect that arrangements had been made whereby the railway companies would honour vouchers amended in manuscript by the substitution of "third class" for "first class."
Does not the right hon. Gentleman consider that he should give us a lead in this matter? Docs foe not consider it most undesirable that Members who preach class warfare should travel first class?
That is an argument.
Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that when this matter was first brought up in the House of Commons an Amendment to this effect was moved on this side, but was outvoted by the hon. Members opposite?
The House made the decision.
