Oral Answers to Questions — Motor Traffic. – in the House of Commons am ar 16 Gorffennaf 1925.
asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that a number of fatal accidents have recently been caused by children running in front of motor cars to ascertain their licence numbers in order to win a prize in some competition; and whether he will consider taking some action to bring to the attention of the public, and particularly children in the schools, the danger involved?
Only one fatality is known to the Metropolitan police during the present year. The objections to the practice have already been brought prominently before the public, and the police have written to all the education authorities in the Metropolitan police district.
Has the Home Secretary any knowledge of such a practice?
Honestly, I have not. But one does know that children do rush about in front of motor cars, and we are doing all we can through the educational authorities to prevent what is a very dangerous practice.
