asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the respective number of applications made on behalf of licensed premises and registered clubs for an extension of hours for the sale or supply of alcoholic refreshments, both within and outside the Metropolitan area during the past 12 months; and what number of these applications were respectively granted?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON:

The total number of applications made within the Metropolitan police district for extensons of hours during the year ended 30th June, 1925, was, for licensed premises, 3,231, of which 7,581 were granted, and for registered clubs, 2,322,, of which 2,061 were granted. Outside the Metropolitan police district the responsibility rests with the Courts of summary jurisdiction, and I cannot give the figures desired.
