Oral Answers to Questions — Coal Industry. – in the House of Commons am ar 18 Mehefin 1924.
asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the causes which have promoted the strike of the miners which has been in progress at Loanend, Blantyre?
I have been asked to reply. I presume that the hon. Member's question relates to Dechmont, Colliery, Loanend, which has been idle since the 26th May. I understand that the object of the stoppage is to compel certain firemen employed at the colliery to rejoin the Miners' Union. These men were previously members of that union, but lapsed from it and joined the Firemen's Association.
What has now happened? Have these members gone back to their original union? Is the strike at an end?
The hon. Member has asked a question as to the cause of the strike and I have replied.
Why is the hon. Member for West Woolwich (Sir K. Wood) so deeply interested in labour questions since he has gone over to that side of the House?
