Oral Answers to Questions — Post Office. – in the House of Commons am ar 17 Ionawr 1924.
asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is prepared to favourably consider the proposal to fix a light at the top of the Cenotaph to be kept constantly shining; and whether he is aware that the French authorities have adopted and put into practice a proposal having a similar object?
The question raised by the hon. Member was carefully considered in June last year. Sir Edwin Lutyens, the designer of the Cenotaph, stated in the Press his objection to the proposal on the ground that the Cenotaph was not designed for the purpose. I share the views of the distinguished architect in this matter.
